Nominations opened today for the 2012 Wine Blog Awards . Looking over the categories Iwas struck by the lack of nominations for best winery blog (full disclosure: I nominated the Boxwood Winery Blog ).
I truly believe Virginia has the best wine bloggers. Not just in terms of quality of writing, but the people behind the blogs are great people.
However, our winery blogs leave a lot to be desired. I know part of that comes from the fact that you have mostly family …
Cider is one of those beverages that I absolutely have to have. I love the dry to semi-sweet sparkling hard ciders one finds on the east coast from Maine all the way down to Virginia, and of course out to Washington and Oregon. One of the places I rarely think of when I am thinking of cider is Pennsylvania. True, home of the whiskey rebellion, and home to so many great brewers and brewing traditions...but cider? Not usually.

…have 6 acres under vine. Owners Jeff and Michelle Sanders moved to Virginia in 2006. They were awed by the lush landscape, the beauty of the Blue Ridge and the friendliness of the people. While searching for a way to marry Jeff's botanical skills with Michelle's love of creating unique chocolates, the couple discovered Virginia's promising wine industry. …TasteCamp offered an opportunity for campers to learn (and taste) more about winemaking in Virginia. We thank the TasteCamp organizers for planning this event, and we encourage readers to visit Virginia wineries to sample the latest releases. Create your own buzz (uh-a list of favorite Virginia wines, course). Remember to mention to the winemakers that Virginia Wine Time sent you.
…transported along on a wave of acidity and some aggressive, not-so-soft tannin. Finished clean, but leaves the mouth somewhat puckered. I know these notes don't make this wine sound so good, but I actually kind of enjoyed it (with food -- without food, it's way too taxing). C+/B- . I think this was around 9 or 10 bucks at Whole Foods in Clarendon. Imported by Siema Wines, Springfield, VA.
