…such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Rhone, Ribera del Duero, Toro, Shiraz , Priorat or Bordeaux red wines. Tasting them colder than that will just difficult the tasting as they need to open so we can perceive their aroma, their evolution in the mouth and so on. So, please pay attention to the Celsius, especially when the wine is good.

Between 11 and 16 º C : when we talk about red wines with less body and more prominent in their fruit character such as Zinfandel

El Picaro means the cheeky one or the rascal, and the wine reflects its name. A young wine with 6 weeks in French oak to round it out a little, it's made from 90 year old Tinta de Toro ( Tempranillo) vines. Fermented in temperature controlled large format concrete tanks, to retain freshness and vibrancy. It [...]

I know that I'm going to surprise you with my choices of designations of origin for 2012 . The news is that I have knocked out two of my favorites: DO Ribera del Duero and DO Toro, to include others, it is quite a step. The reason is that I do not want to be so repetitive and that tasting new wines is always fun.

The first on this podium is the DOCA Rioja , which gives us so much satisfaction when we are outside Spain, as it is the easiest to find …

Tasting notes:

Spicy berries and chocolate on the rich nose

Full bodied and plush on the palate

Berries, licorice, and coffee on the moderately tannic finish

Summary:

Year after year, this is a big, flavorful wine. From the Toro region of Spain, it's made from Tempranillo (locally known as Tinto Toro). The 2008 edition is powerful and nicely layered as well as being a bit more tannic than some prior years. Enjoy now after decanting or allow it to cellar for a few years. At $ 26, it's a good buy. Raise a glass!

Bierzo in the North West, to the underappreciated Navarra and Toro to name but a few.

There was such a broad array of wines, some newly discovered and old favourites from many different vintages including some of the very best in recent memory, namely 1994, 1995, 2001, 2004 and 2005. The evening was very well attended, a sell-out, and in almost every instance the wines were shown by a representative from the winery, generally the winemakers. Very good of them to take the time and effort …

…together, and presented a different profile than other grilled corns you might have had at places like Toro . The corn was naturally sweet, and there was a nice acidic bite to it as well. Definitely order this dish.
