It's an ill wind that blows no-one any good. Stéphanie de Boüard at least may be rather grateful for the storm in a wine glass caused by Château Latour's first release of direct-from-the-château stock on Tuesday. There is so much for the Bordelais to gossip about re the first growth's.
The Salt Wagon
If you're gonna fall off the salt wagon, there's no better block to catch your fall.
Hi, I'm Stephanie, and I'm a salt-a-holic.
::: HI STEPHANIE!:::
It's been three days since my last salting.
:::CLAP CLAP CLAP:::
Like many of you, it all started for me with table salt. Then when I was only 13, I graduated to kosher and sea salt. By the time I was 16, I was eating rock salt off icy winter sidewalks. You could say that's when I really hit rock salt bottom.
Wow, you guys. Dana's line about Jennifer Lawrence's Tiffany being a "proudly dysfunctional village bicycle"; Keith's encomium for the movies ("I'm hopeful that those of us who love it will keep it alive, and continue to be kept alive by it"); and Stephanie's description of Bradley Cooper's Pat Jr. being on "his own internal hamster wheel"—those are tough lines to follow. But I would like to conclude briefly, having delivered …
After the promotion of the Premier Grand Cru Classé property Château Angélus of St-Émilion from B to A class, some French wine merchants received a letter from the Château. Signed by Stéphanie de Boüard, Hubert de Boüard de Laforest and Jean-Bernard Grenié, this letter announced that wine.
…Domaine de la Chevalerie where the fourteenth generation Caslot, Stéphanie proudly unveiled the family's new ‘baby': Bourgueil cru ‘Grand-Mont'. The 38 ha estate is located at Restigné, twelve kilometres from the river Loire on a gently rising bench of sand, clay and limestone; the vineyards facing south/south-east and are protected from the ‘vent du nord' by an immense forest. They're also blessed with 1.5 km of chalk cellars under the property; …
…visit to The Dalles in recent weeks. First, it was to meet Scott and Stephanie from The Grande Dalles. This time it was a long overdue visit with fellow PDX Urban Wineries member Jan-Marc Baker of Jan-Marc Cellars (that's John Mark, if you're wondering how to say it).
Jan-Marc and I made wine in the same Portland facility in 2009, and I took an immediate liking to this skier turned chef turned winemaker, who also likes to forage for wild mushrooms. We'd long …
Stephanie de Bouard, the new deputy managing director at Chateau Angelus, will make the propertyâs traditional markets her main focus.
Stephanie and their young son were driving behind me on the road to the vineyard, so after introductions, we went up to the top of the hill where they have a small trailer on what one day will be a home site. The exposure here is extreme, the view of Mt. Hood and rolling hills worth taking lots of pictures. Which I did (and which you'd see here were it not for a freak thunderstorm later that day back in Portland that claimed my iPhone and all my recent pics).
Scott has lots of varieties …
…focused on making quality wine. At Gadino, it's a family endevour: daughter, Stephanie is Assistant Winemaker & Tasting Room Manager and and Derek, their son-in-law is Operations Manager.
Now, as I went to taste this wine, I was bumping shoulders with a tall gentleman and his lovely wife. Aftr a cheery glass of Gadino Cellars Pinot Grigio, I got to talking with him, he was Kurt Jensen, and his bride was Carol Jensen. Kurt and Carol love visiting wineries, and …
