…with the help of some local professionals who were glad to help me). Which brings us back to the Sonoma County Vintners. For some reason, while I was at Wine Enthusiast our/my relations had minimized over the years. I'm not sure why. Mostly my relationships were with individual wineries and winemakers in Sonoma County, and given my long history with the county, it just didn't seem necessary to work closely with SCV.

…selection of blocks for the Estero is very specific, with all other lots going in to the Sonoma County bottling. The Estero is showing Meyer lemon, lemon curd, fresh cream, underripe nectarines, fresh cream, and a flinty mineral finish that dances on your palate. For $ 35, I'd drink this all day.

Next, two Pinot Noirs from different areas of California. The first, the 2012 Laguna Sonoma Coast , is a blend of the Teach-Mor and Hirsch vineyards, both from the extreme …

Picket Fence pinot noir comes from the Russian River Valley, a cool climate region in Sonoma County, California that is generally good for pinot noir.

This is a light, easy pinot noir. The nose is lightly-fragrant, offering soft plum, cherry and rose aromatics. The palate is also only moderate in concentration, bringing tart cherry, raspberry, plum and spice flavors. The acidity is sufficient and the mouthfeel nice. The finish is rather short. This isn't a knock-your-socks-off wine, …

…" Sonoma" on an appellation, which appears in Sonoma Valley, Sonoma County and of course Sonoma Coast (not to mention the rarely used Northern Sonoma appellation). Then too, there are lots of wineries with the word Sonoma in their name. So adding a West Sonoma Coast AVA to the list runs the risk, it seems to me, of further confusing the consumer.

Then too, it seems likely that at some point there will be smaller sub-AVAs even within this restricted version of the Sonoma Coast…

Rosé of Pinot Noir 2013, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County. The wine's nickname commemorates the long relationship between winery owner and winemaker Kathleen Inman and her husband, Simon. At first, she made the wine only for them and the family, but you can't keep a great wine hidden endlessly. This rosé derives from Inman's Olivet Grange Vineyard, from pinot noir vines dedicated to that purpose. It is fashioned, of course, completely in stainless steel. …

Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc sourced from Russian River Valley ( Sonoma County) fruit. The good folks at Balzac sent along a pair of bottles for review. As with many boutique winemakers, a bottle of Frisson does not come cheaply. The Chardonnay will retail for $ 48, while the Cabernets each retail for right around $ 65. (Both are currently slightly cheaper on the website.)

I was intrigued. I don't often drink whites wine not named " Sauternes" that nudged up …
