Dornfelder from Presque Isle Wine Cellars ( PA). Heading into Virginia, I had never sample the Lovingston Winery Petit Manseng - giving us another incentive to visit the winery. Needlesstosay, there was quite a few wines being sampled - other favorites included the Colorado Cellars Winery ( CO) Gewurztraminer; Gallifant Cellars ( AZ) Chenin Blanc; and Stone Hill Winery ( MO) Norton & Vignoles.

What about the big three - …

…we'd hit our own glass ceiling. I had begun tasting exciting wines from Virginia and Pennsylvania and elsewhere in the mid-Atlantic region. Wines often made from grapes planted and grown by clients of Lucie Morton. She was espousing close spacing. It seemed to me you could taste a profound difference."

For over a decade the Defords had been searching for a site to grow red wine varieties that would complement their vineyard in the Long Green Valley, which was more suitable …

…it gets the name of Pennsylvania wines out there. It's quite impressive to see Pennsylvania wines rank in the top awards for these competitions (although I must say... well deserved).

4) More awareness of local wines - With all of the publicity regarding the PLCB, it's hard to miss their recent move in adding more local wines to state stores. Currently, consumers only see (literally) a handful of Pennsylvania wines in the state stores. But with more selections that are going …

If wine had more writers like Dave Falchek , more people would drink wine. He wants to make wine easier for consumers and he doesn't suffer foolish wines or their producers - and he does this writing in Pennsylvania, which has some of most restrictive liquor laws in the country and where availability is often a joke.

Dave's advice for wine drinkers: First, if you don't like a wine, it doesn't mean your taste buds are broken. Second, you're not supposed to like a wine just because someone else does.

As I grew up, my Italian roots always stayed as my foundation, but a move to Pennsylvania brought me closer to my mother's family and with that an introduction to Polish, German and a more Austro-Hungarian style of foods. So olive oil was replaced by butter, pasta with dumplings, and fish seemed to all but disappear. This was a whole new world to me, and it was at this time that I started to make the connection between the food I was learning about and northern Italian cuisine. I believe …

Bourbon history is quite controversial as in the beginning it was elaborated in Pennsylvania where distilleries where located at first, but they had to migrate due to the tax burden and this fact, for some experts, is considered a myth. The truth is that in 1964 the U.S. Congress declared the distinctive drink Bourbon country.

Maryland's climate shares some characteristics with Virginia and Pennsylvania; the best grape growing regions in the state are those that have higher elevations and rocky, less fertile soils.

3. Warm days and cool nights are ideal during growing season.

4. Best grapes for the state seem to be cabernet franc, chambourcin, petit verdot, sauvignon blanc and albarino with potential for quality chardonnay.

5. The focus especially for red wines should be blends rather than bottling single …

When a man-made disaster strikes any other city, Washington holds its breath. On Tuesday, the pedestrian stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House had been cleared and cordoned off from tourists. Metro stations received more noticeable visits from cops and police dogs. On the walk into the Capitol, trash cans—two of those were used to conceal timed explosives at locations of the Boston Marathon—were turned on their sides, empty and harmless, like Brutalist bird-feeders.

3. Pennsylvania's Privatization and Modernization

The latest news on modernization centers on HB 790 - a bill that calls for and addresses privatization of the sale of alcohol in the state of Pennsylvania.
