…places, gorgeous wines, and enjoyable and passionate people on the planet. Does that beat traveling to Northern NJ to sit in an office and deal with corporate politics? Hell yeah, it does, and it's less difficult by a factor of about 300. The biggest issues I've run into are cavity-related from tasting thousands of wines per year. Anyone who tells you wine writing is sooooo haaaaard is basically being a histrionic drama queen.

Let me put it this way: whenever I'm traveling, …

The Carneros region is steeped in Mexican history. Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, the Military Commander and Director of Colonization of the Northern Frontier of California arrived in this region in 1834 to assume control of Mission San Francisco Solano in Sonoma and distribute the mission lands. Sonoma County and of course Sonoma Coast (not to mention the rarely used Northern Sonoma appellation). Then too, there are lots of wineries with the word Sonoma in their name. So adding a West Sonoma Coast AVA to the list runs the risk, it seems to me, of further confusing the consumer.

San Francisco lately has become famous. There's a lot of money being made, fast, in Northern California. Last year, 2013, was "a banner year" for initial public offerings, the biggest since 2000 (immediately preceding the dot-com collapse); more than $ 54 billion was raised, more than twice as much as in 2008 when the Great Recession started, and believe me, a lot of that money is washing around San Francisco, which is enjoying (if that's the right word) its …

We spoke for a long time about his winemaking philosophy and the group that he is part of, I Dolomitici. They are 11 producers united by friendship, solidarity, and a common vision of agriculture in the Trentino. Their desire is to promote the region's diversity and originality with respect for nature and ethical concerns. I Liberi Viticoltori Trentini is composed of the following …

…Fermier Affine - Made at the ''Farm of rejuvenation'' in Northern France, this brie is the best we've found yet. Mushroomy and fungal, gooey and creamy, you'll get hints of fresh shucked oysters and a tiny bit of iron. We think we're in love.

Chebris - is a nutty-sweet blend of sheep and goat combines the best of both worlds in a harmonious duet. Sheep's milk indulges in the first few lines with its rich, …

…the subject, despite the ludicrously long sentence above) also explores the idea of whether or not Northern California's vineyards exhibit terroir , and if so whether or not that individuality and vinous fingerprinting can be interpreted and displayed by bootstrapping upstarts buying the region's grapes, just as the better producers on the Ventura County trail are attempting right now. I'm not yet convinced that they've fully achieved it, but the experiment is still …
