This outstanding wine is made up of 70% Grenache and equal proportions of Syrah, Cinsualt and Mourvèdre. The vines are 40 years of age on average and the yields are a very low 15 hl/ha. the wine has been brought up in concrete for 22 months and does not want for pedigree, purity and power.

Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer, February 2012

This small biodynamic Domaine is new to our list and is for me symbolic of the quality and style of the wines from the relatively recently promoted …

It's offered excellent value from the first release but for personal drinking preference - this is my favourite of the Les Courtilles releases so far. Blend of grenache, syrah and mourvedre. 35 year old vines.

…49% grenache, 28% syrah, 15% mourvèdre, 8% counoise. Dark ruby-magenta color; earthy, loamy and foresty but clean and fresh; intense and concentrated but not closed or aloof; focused tannins and acidity that drive the wine's energy and allure; very dark, spicy and slightly meaty black and red currants and raspberries with hints of blackberry and blueberry; long spice- and graphite-packed finish. Now through 2018 to 2020. Excellent. About $ 30.

…Foothills. Made in the Crystal Basin Cellars style of minimal handling and processing, this Mouvedre is approachable and delicious upon release, but should improve for up to 36 months after bottling, gaining complexity with age. Historically, CBC Mourvedres have won the Best of Class of Regionat the California State Fair for 4 out of the last 6 vintages. Crystal Basin makes (and sells!) more Mourvedre than any other Foothills producer. Try some for a new and grand wine experience." …

…62 percent grenache, 33 percent syrah and 5 percent mourvedre; the wine aged 16 months in French oak barrels, 30 percent new. The alcohol level is startlingly high — 15.1 percent — but the wine is balanced, harmonious and well-modulated in all elements. The color is deep saturated ruby; notes of ripe and macerated black currants, plums and mulberries are highlighted with hints of leather, cloves and allspice and a back-note of fruitcake. Rollicking acidity keeps the wine fresh …

…here is 35 percent each grenache and syrah, 30 percent mourvèdre; 20 percent of the wine aged in oak barrels for six months. The color is deep dark ruby; aromas and flavors of blackberries, black currants and blueberries are bolstered by hints of briers and brambles, tar and leather. A few minutes in the glass bring in touches of slightly stewed plums and elements of smoked meat, fruitcake and graphite. The texture is appropriately robust yet supple, and tannins are present yet moderately …

…it. The Rouge is even a wilder blend. It is primarily Grenache and Mourvedre but there is also Cinsault, Syrah, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Castet, Manosquin, Théoulier, Tibouren, Picpoul Noir and Muscat de Hambourg. Like a roll call of Southern French grapes there. Shocked there is no Lladoner Pelut. Today I am very very excited to be able to offer one of the great wines of the word, Chateau Simone, both the blanc and rouge Palette for as little as $ 49.99…
