vineyard-designated Cabernet I ever heard of was Joe Heitz's Martha's Vineyard. It was, back in the day, the most famous Cab in Napa Valley, and if it's lost a little of its luster in the glare of so many newer brands, it's still well-regarded. So theoretically — there's that word again — a wine produced from a single vineyard or a particular lot or block of vines in a vineyard will represent higher quality (and of course command a high price) than a wine with a broader background; anyway, that's the argument. The scenario doesn't always work out that way, and the proliferation of …

This is bluefish crudo. Whoa, raw bluefish. I ate this not long ago on Martha's Vineyard at a dinner hosted by Chris Fischer , the former chef and current farmer who I believe sells produce to several hip Brooklyn restaurants, including the Andrew Tarlow joints. Anyway, bluefish is oily and very strongly flavored and isn't something that I think of eating raw. But this fish had been caught earlier in the day and it was beautiful, simply served with lemon, olive …

…tech and finance as well as other industries, major research centers and the jet-set destinations of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, it's fair to say there's a large population interested in wine. However, the state is one of the hardest for retailers to ship wine into. Fortunately for the locals, this lack of external competition doesn't lead to a poor selection and high prices; some of the state's wine shops offer some terrific wines and, even reasonable prices …
