Alexander Valley, 24 percent Russian River Valley, 23 percent Dry Creek Valley and 1 percent Knights Valley — and then, from Lake County next door, the final 7 percent.

From the glass waft exuberant scents of tangerine and lime peel, kiwi and celery seed, a touch of leafy fig and tarragon and a powerful element of damp limestone; give the wine a few moments and it gains an almost talc-like exhalation of jasmine and lilac. "Crisp" doesn't begin to describe how …

14.5% alcohol. Dry Creek Valley, CA

TASTING NOTES:

Dark red color with lots of vanilla oak. Not as muscular as expected. Flavors of blackberry, black cherry-raspberry, black currant and mocha.

SCORE & RECOMMENDATION:

87 PTS

I've always loved this Zinfandel, but this vintage falls short. It is thinner and not as vibrant as prior years. The alcohol is showing through and it left me yearning more richness. At $ 30 a bottle, this falls very short of expectations.

…appellations against each other with a winemaker and vineyard manager on each team. Representing the Dry Creek Valley (and Dry Creek Vineyard) was Nova Perrill our Assistant Winemaker and Matt Vogensen our Vineyard Manager from Bevill Vineyard Management.

The Dry Creek Valley wine appellation of Sonoma Country offers a tremendous variety of wines. From Zinfandel to Pinot Blanc to Syrah, a wine lover can find a winery producing a delicious, affordable wine at every turn. When Trattore Estate Wines sent me a sample of two of their wines, and their olive oil, I was quite looking forward to sampling them both.

…qualities testify to grapes that were not anywhere near as ripe as they would have been had they come from Dry Creek Valley, just a few miles across the river as the crow flies. But the wine itself was fine, as elegant as Zin gets. I suspect it came from a sunnier, higher elevation part of Green Valley than where Pinot Noir grows. Ottomino's website says "the Von Weidlich Vineyard...averages nearly 10 degrees warmer than adjacent areas."

Zinfandel is an enormously …

…seafoods. This is clearly food friendly, but also very nice white wine to sip on it's own. I've reviewed a Sobon Estate Viognier before, as well as a Lange Twins Viognier . Additional viognier reviews are coming, including a new one from Trattore Wines in Dry Creek Valley, CA.

Enjoy some viogner today, and let me know what you think!

…represents. This is only partially true. Yes, you want the public to know and trust the region, be it Dry Creek Valley, Santa Barbara County or Fort Ross-Seaview. You want to communicate the unique traits of your region, everything from the climate and restaurants to various recreational things to do. But individual wineries sometimes fear, and rightfully so, that promoting the region has the unintended consequence of promoting their competitors. This is the concern of proprietors. The successful …
