…the Stan Clarke Vineyard that was donated by College Cellars at Walla Walla Community College and The United States Air Force Academy - Class of 1972.
Looking at the photo of the new engraved stone marker, once again I was reminded of another
" Stan Story."
I was one of the first classes that Stan taught when he first came to the program at the Eno/Vit Center at WWCC. It was a busy time for me, as not only w as I a full-time student, but I was also …
2009 Alexandria Nicole Cellars Destiny : When I walk into ANC's Woodinville tasting room, they know to bring out this luscious blend. That's because year after year, it's been at top of my list of stellar ANC wines - and it's a long list! Winemaker Jarrod Boyle calls Destiny "voluptuous" - and for good reason. This vintage is Cab-Sauv based ( 67%), with equal parts Cab Franc and Merlot ( 10% each), plus 8% Malbec, and rounded out …
In the Cornerstone Cellars, the 2009 Howell Mountain Cabernet really shows these elements. Farmed organically, the Ink Grade vineyard is on the east side of Howell Mountain at 1800 feet. Producing smaller berries with an intensity of flavor, a touch of Oak Knoll Cab and Carneros Merlot are blended in. I adore this wine, and found it deep, and earthy with beautiful blue black notes of blackberry and blueberry, with cracked black pepper and dutch cocoa. The word that …
…had made it, which makes this the second mention Dawnine gets in this post!) And B Cellars had a really good portfolio of 2009s (and I did not know at the time that Kirk Venge was their winemaker. He is hands down turning into one of the best in the valley). All in all, though, 2009 was a routine year.
Then we come to 2010. It blew everyone's mind because it was so cool (before 2011 came along, which was even colder). Oddly, the late summer also was punctuated by severe heat waves. …

If you've read Wine Wars you know that I end each flight of chapters with a wine tasting designed to explore the themes raised in the book. Three Sauvignon Blancs make up the first flight and thus inspired I put together a tasting of Charles Shaw (a.k.a. Two …

Hello Friends,
Today's ‘ Quick Sip ' is the DuNah Vineyards 2006 Montre Mendocino Red Wine ( SRP $ 35). I had an opportunity to taste this wine last Tuesday for Cellars of Sonoma # TVTuesdayLive virtual wine show. Cellars of Sonoma host and co-owner, Scott Jordan, welcomed Rick DuNah, proprietor of DuNah Vineyards and Winery and winemaker Greg La Follette to the show. DuNah Vineyards and Winery is a small Sonoma ( Russian River Valley) producer …
…Ed in August 2012, Jay quickly realized that Flat Rock Cellars was the place to be and joined the team for Harvest 2012, taking the Winemaking reins at Flat Rock Cellars.
Flat Rock Cellars' vineyards are comprised of 80 acres of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, with a small patch of Gewurztraminer for good measure. They chose these varietals as an integral part of our overall winemaking strategy, because they are best suited to cooler climate of the Niagara Peninsula…
…V. Sattui, Bjorn, Venge, Redmon and B Cellars, and I've never had any older wines from any of them. I did it because the wines seemed to me to possess all the stuffing and equilibrium to go the distance-and they are all from Napa Valley. On the other hand, I've also given Cellar Selection recommendations for the likes of Ridge Montebello, Corison and Beaulieu Private Reserve in Cabernets, and some of Williams Selyem's single-vineyard Pinot Noirs, all of …
…first made wine as a hobby for family and friends. That was the case for Allegheny Cellars and for its neighbor, Flickerwood Wine Cellars, about 20 minutes away. Flickerwood co-owner Ron Zampogna made wine his entire life. After nearly four decades with the US Forest Service, he retired and his kids convinced him and Mom they should go commercial. "Our children talked us into this venture as they felt their Dad's wine was that good," said Sue Zampogna.
The entire …
