…has done for so many winemakers in Loudoun, and beyond. Prior to making his own wine Ben was a vineyard manager for several wineries in the area, and he still maintains a select list of clients.

If you want to see his winemaking skills in action, this weekend 8 Chains North is hosting a mini-vertical featuring their 2008 and 2009 Furnace Mountain Red. This is a Bordeaux-Style blend that really showcases Ben as a winemaker, not just a viticulturist.

Ben shared a few wines with …

…provided shelter from early sprinkles and then the later bright sunlight. Our first flight began with Ben Renshaw's lineup of the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc (which actually grew on me as it warmed up a little bit), the refreshing LocoVino, and the 2008 Furnace Mountain Red. We recently visited 8 Chains North, and our favorites remained the LocoVino and the 2008 Furnace Mountain Red. Dad chimed in that his favorite was of this flight was the LocoVino; Mom does not drink wine, …

…blending collaboration along with Jordan Harris at Tarara Winery and Ben Renshaw at 8 Chains North. This will be very similar to the successful "3″ blend produced by Veritas Vineyards, King Family Vineyards and Pollak Vineyards. The red grapes used in this blend will all be from the Tranquility Vineyards in Loudoun County; although we did not jot down the varieties to be used in the blend, we will be sure to find out in time for the June 5 release!

With our tasting …

Hello Friends,

Today's " Quick Sip" is the Tarara Winery 2008 Nevaeh Red. Nevaeh is Tarara's estate vineyard, which is managed by grape-grower and owner of 8 Chains North , Ben Renshaw. For the purist, single vineyard wines are by far the best …

Renshaw manages two of Loudoun County's most respected vineyards, Nevaeh and Tranquility and viewers of Episode 1 of MyJoogTV with filmed at Tarara Winery may recall that the NoVA series wines we tasted were made primarily from grapes harvested from these vineyards. And please visit their website to learn the history of 8 Chains North.

Back in March, I wrote about the upcoming jointly released wine from 8 Chains North , Hiddencroft Vineyards , and Tarara called Three2One.

In the article I mentioned that the wine was a 50-50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat. Ben Renshaw, from 8 Chains North, wrote in to tell me it is actually a blend of about 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Tannat.

Apologies for the error, and thank you Ben!

…newcomer to the Loudoun County wine trail. 8 Chains North is operated by Ben Renshaw, who serves as grape-grower, winemaker, and owner, and is one of the most well-respected and nicest guys in the Loudoun County wine industry.

8 Chains North

Ben's an advocate of the local food and wine movement and this was reflected in the evening's dinner menu. The menu highlighted seasonal, locally grown and raised foods paired with locally grown wines. One thing of note that I personally …
