I won't lie. The first year of sales - mostly my 2009 Vincent Pinot Noir Eola-Amity Hills - was a little daunting. That's in part because selling wine is hard, in part because things actually went much better than they might have, but still it was hard and the wine took time to sell. In retrospect, my feeling after selling through the 2009 vintage was like a tight rope walker who looks back after a successful crossing and gulps, realizing the peril s/he didn't notice en route. …
…2009 ( 100% Cabernet Franc), SuLei Cellars -2009 ( 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc), Trio Vintners Tres Rose - 2009 ( 50% Grenache, 50% Mourvèdre), and Trust Cellars 2009 ( 100% Cabernet Franc).
These rosés are all limited productions so "gather ye rosés while ye may ..."
In the mean time I will go over the highlights of the wineries I visited and choose just one wine from each winery.

…exactly 100 years from when the house was first built, most of the work finishing by 2009. Narbona now makes 60,000 bottles of wine a year, exporting around 80%, much of the production being the value brand Porto Carmelo . The land is also a working farm, producing cheese, milk and other food products.
The former winery building is now a museum celebrating the winemaking of the previous time and the property on which it was founded. The ironic part (you knew that was coming) is that …

Purchasing Power Inaction
The textbook remedy to this situation is for the foreign exchange value of the peso to fall to achieve what economists call Purchasing Power Parity. In a system of market determined exchange rates, according to the PPP theory, a 25% fall in the domestic purchasing power of the peso due to inflation should result in a 25% decrease in its foreign exchange value.
And indeed the …
2009 Petite Sirah - The petite Sirah is quite popular nowadays, but that hasn't always been the case. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, much larger full-size Sirahs quickly grew in popularity. Wine drinkers were attracted by the size, convenience, and supposed safety of such models. Full-size Sirahs kept getting bigger and bigger, to the point where it wasn't uncommon to find vintages that got gas mileage in the single digits. Toward the latter half of the decade their popularity …
If you ever read my article in the 2009 November issue of Walla Walla Lifestyles, and also here, then you might remember The Stan Story.
The Stan Story was a short collection of people sharing their own stories about our Founding Associate Director of the Enology and Viticulture Program at Walla Walla Community College. This week the college just announced the new marker for the Stan Clarke Vineyard that was donated by College Cellars at Walla Walla Community College…
Last night I paid off a large debt. At a charity auction an adventurous patron had bid a quite extravagant sum for a wine tasting by me for her and a group of friends featuring five superb wines: Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2000, Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay 2010, Morgon, Ch des Jacques, Louis Jadot 2009, Shafer Vineyards Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon 2002, and as a finale, to wash down the Colston Bassett stilton from Murray's Cheese, the fabulous Taylor Fladgate…
Robert Parker 90 points: "The 2009 Rose Vineyard Marlborough Riesling gives a chalky, mineral nose with some straw and lime leaf plus a little citrus zest and freshly made bread dough. Made to a relatively dry style, it has a medium body and lively acidity cutting through the elegant fruit, finishing long and steely. Approachable now, it should drink well to 2016+"
Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoy the wines!
Cheers!

…Syrah , a 2008 Merlot , a 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon , a 1998 Liberty Release Cabernet Sauvignon and a 1983 Cabernet Sauvignon . They were all good wines, and my favorites were the Cabernets. Even the 1983 still possessed lots of life, having aged quite well. Paired with the beef dishes, the wines showed well.
Our first course was a Beef Carpaccio , with mushroom and smoked tongue. The beef was superb, silky smooth and bursting with flavor.
Next up were Pierogi …
In the Cornerstone Cellars, the 2009 Howell Mountain Cabernet really shows these elements. Farmed organically, the Ink Grade vineyard is on the east side of Howell Mountain at 1800 feet. Producing smaller berries with an intensity of flavor, a touch of Oak Knoll Cab and Carneros Merlot are blended in. I adore this wine, and found it deep, and earthy with beautiful blue black notes of blackberry and blueberry, with cracked black pepper and dutch cocoa. The word that …
